Welcome To The

SKAG+ Revolution

The true history of High Performance Google Ads campaigns.

In The Beginning

The story begins way back when Google launched AdWords on October 23, 2000. Then Google comes up with the Google Best Practices to help advertisers build successful campaigns.

Google updates the Best Practices to include new campaign types and features. But the core of the platform, Search Campaigns and their associated Best Practices change very little over the years.

The Obsolete Google Best Practices

Over the years the advertising platform improves greatly and the number of advertisers sky rockets. Much has changed over the last decade, but the Google Best Practices for search campaigns has remained fundamentally unchanged.

Fortunately for us, a small group of industry insiders and PPC professionals from a variety of highly competitive industries realized the Google Best Practices had room for improvement.

The Classic SKAG

Over time and amid much controversy, a new sub-set of best practices would emerge for Search Campaigns based on a revolutionary campaign structure called a SKAG or ‘Single Keyword Ad Group’.

On the surface, the idea behind SKAG campaigns is simple . But look a little deeper and things begin to get complicated. First of all, building an effective SKAG campaign is impossible without advanced automation.

Quality Score is the single most important factor in the success of a Google Ads campaign. And the 3 most important factors  that determine Quality Score is the relevance between your Keyword, your Ad and your Landing Page. But the ability to optimize your Landing Page is not available with a standard SKAG campaign.

Automated SKAG Builds

Google provides the Google Best Practices as a guidelines for advertisers to follow when building campaigns. Unfortunately there is no widely agreed upon set of Best Practices for SKAG campaign. However there are 2 companies that provide SasS applications to automate the SKAG campaign build process.

Automatic Cross-Negative Keywords

Aori will automatically create negative keywords on the ad group level to prevent any cannibalisation. E.g. the keywords ‘Italian vacation Rome’ would be applied as negatives to the ‘Italian vacation’ ad group.
